Ceramics Klin Firing & Glazing Service
Even without their own kiln, many people want to work with clay or paint raw materials. For exactly that group of people there are ceramics kiln firing and glazing services.
Clay firing & glazing process
1. RAW FIRE
This service includes the so-called raw firing, also called biscuit firing. After a drying phase of about 1-2 weeks at the customer’s site, the work piece is fired by the provider in the kiln to a potsherd, also called greenware. This gives the clay piece a high breaking strength.
2A. GLASS FIRE
Now the customer can decorate the potsherd with ceramic colours and glazes. In order to bond these inseparably with the potsherd and to achieve a non-slip surface, a so-called glaze firing as a service may be offered. During the firing process, the colour and glaze combine to form a glassy surface on the potsherd. Now the workpiece has become a ceramic.
2B. GLAZE & GLAZE FIRING
In the glazing service, the customers bring their raw fired clay pieces decorated with ceramic colours. The provider then lays a transparent glossy glaze over it and fire it to create the ceramic.
As a further service the glazing of raw fired pieces with glazes selected by the customer and also firing these pieces to ceramics may be offered.
